The Question You Always Ask…

I love that Thrive is providing for a spring board to a conversation about money…about how to live with margin and live on mission.
One of the questions I always get is this:  should churches talk about money?  I love that question.  Here are three ways to think about it:

First, if you read the bible, you'll notice there are over 2,000 references to money.  So I guess if we were preaching faithfully, we'd talk about it a lot more than we do.

Second, the reality is you talk about money all the time. Chances are you talk about it every day.  If you talk about it and God talks about it, shouldn't the church talk about it?

Third, Jesus said if there was going to be an idol in our lives that threatens to replace God, the number one candidate would be money.  I know that's true in my life.  The best way I fight my natural greediness is to give.

So I'm glad we're talking about money.  And I'm glad we're talking about it in a context of surrendering our finances to God…living with margin and living on mission.  Giving first, saving second and living on the rest.
What's resonating with you on Thrive?  What questions do you have?
