How Do You Persevere When Things are Hard?

Perseverance through pain is where Jesus transforms you. Easy to say, hard to do. Right? But it’s under pressure where diamonds are produced, it’s in the fire where gold is refined. In James 1:5, he promises, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” He wants to speak to you. So let’s get practical. Here are 5 things that can help you when you are persevering through a challenging time so you can hear God and see transformation.

Tell someone

Pain is never meant to be a journey of isolation. In order to process pain in a healthy way, not everyone needs to know, but someone does.

Increase your silence and prayer

Silence is often where God speaks into our pain. It’s hard, but drowning out the silence is often drowning out the voice of God.

Journal

Journalling is a great companion to prayer and processing. It will also give you something active to do when you struggle with silence. This is something I want to improve at.

Hope in the Dark 12-Day Devotional

This Bible reading plan is based on a powerful and personal book by pastor Craig Groeschel. I share this short book often.

Know your escape and blame patterns

Knowing when and how you run from pain is the best way to fight the urge and lean into Jesus. He wants to stand with you in your pain and transform you.

So if you are going through a painful time and persevering to “remain under” in the way of Jesus, I think these things could be a real help. If you aren’t going through a challenging time now, I’d encourage you to keep these on hand for yourself or for a friend you could share them with. With the downs of life come the ups as well.

This Sunday we’re looking at the way of Jesus in success. Can’t wait! Join us in person in Barrie or Orillia, or online at 9am and 10:30am ET!
