Day 18 – October 27, 2012 – 40-Day Spiritual Journey

READ Daniel 3: 1-18

When I was a teenage boy I was often asked by our elderly neighbours to cut their grass or shovel their driveway. I often met this opportunity with mixed emotions. I knew that helping them out was the right thing to do, but I never knew if they were going to compensate me for my hard work after I was done. If they did choose to compensate me, would it be in the cold hard cash I desired, or a stale cookie? It was hard to choose to do the right thing without knowing the outcome.

It’s easier to choose to do what’s right when we can decide ahead of time if the outcome is worth it. It’s much harder when we’re not certain of the outcome at all.

The heroes in this story demonstrate bold faith by obeying God regardless of the outcome.

Daniel 3: 17-18
“17If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. 18But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”

Their faith manifests itself in obedience regardless of the outcome. These men chose to obey the One who is in control and leave the outcomes up to Him, even if it means their own death. As a result of their bold faith, God writes an incredible story in their lives that we’re still talking about today.

When we choose to trust God and leave the outcomes up to Him, He always writes a better story.

Bold faith is about obedience, not outcomes.

LIVE What are the areas of your life where you need to trust God by making the right choice regardless of the outcome? In what areas do you need to take a bold risk by leaning into a promise God has made to us in the Bible without knowing the outcome? Do you feel that God is writing an amazing story in your life? If not, where are you giving Him the space to write that story by obeying Him boldly in an area that’s uncomfortable and seeing what He does?

God, I know that your incredible stories often start with someone putting bold faith in you through obedience regardless of the outcomes. I pray that you would show me where I need to put my faith in you with bold obedience, and I trust you with the outcome.
