Day 1 – October 10, 2012 – 40 Day Spiritual Journey

READ John 4: 1-42

Almost thirty years ago my dad started a small business. It was a start up, tight on cash and very small. One afternoon a man came into the shop on the way to his cottage and asked if my dad could build a plastic prototype for a pager/phone he was trying to build for his new company. The only catch was, he didn’t have the money to pay my dad. He too was starting a new business and had little cash. He did, however, offer my dad stock in exchange for the work.

My dad decided against it in the end because, at the time, he couldn’t afford to work for stock. Looking back on it, my father is quite sure that the man who visited him that day was Mike Lazaridis. And the company he had just started was Research in Motion, maker of the soon-to-be-famous BlackBerry.

If you only knew. Even though RIM’s stock has fallen badly in the last few years, even today’s devalued stock would have made my father an extremely wealthy man.

My dad doesn’t regret that decision (too much). It would have jeopardized his new company and in the end, he did quite well in business. But it’s moments like that which only come around once in a lifetime.

A woman standing by a well had one of those moments. She didn’t just meet a man that day, she met Jesus, the man who was the Saviour of the world. As Jesus himself said as she was coming to terms with who she was talking to: “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” (John 4:10)

Do you know who you’re dealing with in Jesus? Do you really know what’s at stake? Do you really know how powerfully he can change your life and the life of your friends and family if you boldly trust him? Do you know?

Today, realize that you bring Jesus with you wherever you go. When you introduce people to him, you introduce them to someone who will change their life and eternity.

Pray that you will develop a bold, trusting faith in Jesus.

So true! it is good to be reminded of who jesus is in he context of every day life and thre privilege we have of intorducing others to Him.

I was hit for the first time by the fact that these Samaritans, even though they did not worship in the ‘correct’ way, had not forgotten their God and the fact that he was going to send the Anointed One ‘to explain everything to us.’

How amazing it must have felt to them. They have lived their whole live being told they were not good enough but here was the very Anointed One they had been looking for staying in their town, stepping in their world and being a part of their community.

Yet I have trouble believing he wants to do the same with me, that he wants to boldly change my life and the lives of those around me. I look forward to seeing where you take us these 40 days.

Today’s thoughts were a helpful reminder–Our understanding of WHO we trust directly impacts how much we trust to Him. Looking forward to growing more in this over the next 40 days!

I think we so often take WHO Jesus is for granted. When we stop to think about how GREAT and MIGHTY He is, things change. His power isn’t just Sunday-morning power…it’s all-changing power. And insignificant little me has access to this power. Wow!
