Honest question, how are you coping with being isolated at home? I know here that some days are better than others, and you know what? That's perfectly ok.
This week, we sat down with Registered Psychotherapist, Em Dyson, and Coach and Counsellor, Jordan Mason, to talk about mental health struggles in COVID-19. If you missed the conversation, be sure to watch it here.
I wanted to highlight something that stood out to me from that conversation, as well as share a tool they created specifically for our viewers. The tool focuses on helping you to develop a calm practice in your home as you navigate COVID-19 life. Click here to check that out.
Now, for that highlight I mentioned.
One of the things that stood out to me over and over again throughout the conversation was the role of grace. Both for ourselves and others. It can be difficult to extend grace to ourselves – particularly in a time when it feels like we have no idea if what we're doing is right, or helpful, or needed. After all, there's no guidebook on how to self-isolate for week number 8, 9, or 10 during a worldwide pandemic.
But you know what? There is a guidebook on grace. His name is Jesus.
Let me share with you what Paul writes in Romans 5:2. “Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege (grace) where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.”
The parentheses are my add. I didn't want you to miss that. Because of our faith in Jesus, we can stand in undeserved privilege. Grace. On the days when you find it hard to extend grace to yourself or others, stand firm in the grace that Jesus offers you.
I'd encourage you to keep reading in Romans 5. Paul shares more on suffering and joy – which is really helpful for this unique time.
Today though, I want to encourage you to receive the fullness of God's grace. As your thoughts become overwhelming, or your anxiety becomes crippling, or your isolation starts to feel inundated with demands, remember He's right there with you. It will be ok.
