20 Mills Road – Update

A short update on where we stand with the 20 Mills Road Initiative – an initiative to find a full time facility for Connexus to help us boldly advance our mission.  But first, a thank you to all of you who have been faithfully praying for us as we contemplate our next steps as a congregation.  One thing is for sure – we are ready to take the boldest step we have ever taken as a congregation.
Earlier this week several media outlets reported that our rezoning request was approved.  That would be great, except it’s a bit more nuanced than that.  Council members did look at our request on Monday June 11th but it needs further study and approval on June 18th and is subject to a final vote on Monday June 25th.  After that there is a 30 day appeal period we need to let expire before we are fully and finally approved.  That said, council did give us a positive vote on Monday June 11th and at this point we are anticipating adoption of our request (which is great news).  We’re very grateful to the members of council who have worked with us on this.  The next two critical dates are the final council vote on June 25th and the lapse of the appeal period thirty days later.
That said, obtaining zoning reapproval is just one of the steps we need for 20 Mills Road to become a reality.  Our elders are doing a lot of work right now on the financing picture and several other details.  If those are all in place by July 30th, we will indeed be able to proceed with 20 Mills Road.  But again, there are hurdles we need to clear in order for all of this to happen.
If you have further questions, please let us know.  We’ll bring along further updates as things become clearer.
Once again, thank you for your incredible prayers and support across our campuses!  We’re excited about all that is ahead.
