No. We believe that a child must be old enough to understand what it means to put their faith in Jesus Christ before they can be baptized. This event is an opportunity for you as parents to publicly declare that you want to raise your child to develop their own relationship with Jesus Christ.
Child dedication is not a requirement from scripture. However, we believe that widening the circle of adults in your child's(ren's) life is important to help support you as you raise your child(ren) to follow Jesus.
Parents of children getting dedicated at Connexus Church must be attending regularly and engaged in the life of the church.
The dedication event is hosted either before or after a Sunday morning service in our student space that we host our Transit (grade 5-8) Sunday morning environments. Space is limited because of the size of the room and therefore the number of families that can participate will be limited.
After you have submitted your child dedication application, your participation for the dedication will be confirmed upon completion and receipt of required items. Once all required items are submitted, you will receive a confirmation email to the dedication event along with some more helpful information.
The event should last approximately 15 minutes. During this time, you will have an opportunity to share your homework. You will also be led in a prayer of dedication before being dismissed.
We encourage you to invite your family and friends. Please keep in mind that the dedication space has a capacity of 100 people. We will email you closer to the event to confirm how many seats you will need for your dedication.
There is no cost to participate in child dedication.
Invite your friends and family. A sample invitation will be emailed to you. You will also need to watch a video in preparation for the event. This video contains homework challenges to be shared at the celebration. You will be emailed a link to the video as well.
Whatever you and your little one(s) will feel most comfortable in! Some people dress casually in jeans, while others wear more formal attire.
Doors will open 10 minutes prior to the beginning of the dedication time.
Please bring your own camera and we will have a staff member or volunteer take your picture. We will also have a member of our creative team taking pictures during the celebration.
