What We Believe: The Bible

It was a great day yesterday at our Barrie campus as we kicked off the new series, Not Actually Jesus (it launches this coming Sunday, June 6th at our Orillia campus!)  As promised, we’re starting a discussion this week about what we believe.  This should be fun, because the discussion was already ramping up in the foyer yesterday after the services!

It’s a follow up to the first message of the series (watch it here or get the podcast via iTunes), in which we challenged the idea that it doesn’t really matter what we believe about spiritual things as long as we’re sincere. Truth matters because while you might be sincere, you can be sincerely wrong. We’ve designed this six part blog series as a follow up to the first message to help all us find a benchmark against which we can measure what we believe. It’s much easier to callibrate truth in your life if you have a clear reference point for what Christians believe about key concepts.  As I said in the message, we’re excited about aligning our lives with what’s true because life become so much more rewarding and fulfilling when we align them with what’s true (think about driving over a well engineered bridge or eating chicken that’s fully cooked).

Our doctrinal statement at Connexus isn’t long; and instead of focusing on what divides us as Christ-followers, we focus on what unites us.  These are truths that have been embraced by the majority of Christians in every generation for almost 2000 years.  Each day this week we’re sharing a short doctrinal statement and encouraging you to ask questions, share comments and probe beneath the surface.

So, you ready?  Here we go.  This is what we believe about the Bible:

We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error.

What’s your take on this?  What part of this truth is easy to embrace?  What’s harder for you?
