What are Some Good Bible Reading Plans?

If you have ever thought about reading your Bible, you’ve probably discovered the YouVersion Bible App for your phone or tablet. Or maybe you heard about YouVersion for the first time in a message like this from Jeff. Either way, it’s a fantastic resource with so many great Bible reading plans.

However, once people find it, two of the most common questions I get are:

“I want to read the Bible but where do I start? or “I found the reading plans on YouVersion, but how do I know which plans are good?”

So, I thought I would put something together to help.

There are really four types of YouVersion Reading Plans:

  1. Reading through the Bible Plans – This allows you to read through the scripture, book by book, or all the way through in a set period of time.
  2. Topical Plans – These allow you to read scripture on a particular topic and then read a devotional commentary written about the scripture.
  3. Book Based Plans – These are plans that are written around a particular book of the Bible and are written by the author of the book. They also include scripture.
  4. Seasonal Plans – These are plans created around particular seasons in the calendar like Easter or Christmas.

How do you know which plans are good to start with?

That’s a great question. We surveyed the staff at Connexus and below are some of their favourites. Our team hopes that these would be a great start for you and that you find them helpful in developing the habit of reading your bible more often.

Hebrews 4:12 makes a great argument for why reading your Bible every day is a great practice:

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Hebrews 4:12

God is ready and waiting to speak to you. Jump into your Bible today to read His words. If you miss a day on your reading plan, don’t give up, just pick up where you left off. God’s given us access to how He sees you and sees your world. He’s given us this gift to hear Him speak into our lives through this book. Don’t miss it!

Have you found a reading plan you like? We’d love to see it in the comments below.
