Our Student Compassion Team Faces the Toronto Floods
This team of 11 Transit (grade 6-8) students and leaders led by Barbara Benjamins, left for the city on Sunday night.
First, we want you to know the team is safe and well! Yesterday afternoon they were working and learning at the Yonge St. Mission, an organization that serves the homeless community in Toronto. They got caught in the worst of the rain as they were traveling through the city Monday night, but made it in spite of the interruptions in public transit.
The team spent Monday night making memories. With no power they spent the night debriefing their day, complete with wood-fired pizza and journaling by candlelight.
We are excited that this team of students is able and enthusiastic about serving the city of Toronto in a time of need. The team will continue to serve their mornings at a camp for unchurched children from the community surrounding Chartwell Baptist Church, and spend their afternoon serving the city of Toronto.
The Transit Compassion Team will be providing food and supplies to those affected by the floods and living without a home by going on community walks through the city. They will have the opportunity to serve at the food bank, and support the people of the Greater Toronto Area with their love, time and prayers.
I want to thank you for being such big supporters of student ministry here at Connexus. I know that this week our students will make an impact on the people that they are serving in the Greater Toronto Area. Even more than this, I pray that God will transform the hearts of our students as they serve him in such a bold way.
Will you join us in praying for the city if Toronto, as well as praying for our students as they serve God there?
Thanks,
Jordan Mason
Director of Student Ministry
