Day 40 – A 2000 Year Old Question (And One You Should Ask Yourself Today)

Day 40

Luke 24:5 NLT

Can you believe we are at the end of Your Next 40 Days? Seriously? It’s been an incredible journey together!

Hundreds of people every day have joined on the journey for a total of nearly 10,000 views on our blog and many more through the Connexus app.

It’s exciting to think about what God has done in the hearts of people who want to belong, believe and become in these 40 Days after Easter.

So what’s next for you?

For real?  What’s next? I’m asking (don’t let this go). This isn’t over. It’s just beginning.

Maybe you know what’s next, but if not, don’t despair, we’re going to tackle it in detail tomorrow, so check back for an unofficial Day 41.

But in the meantime, let me leave you with a question that always pierces me and can help drive you to what’s next for you, whether you are just getting comfortable belonging, believing or becoming.

Today’s question is 2000 years old.  It was asked by an angel when he saw some of the first followers of Jesus trying to find out what his death meant for them.

Listen to the question:

Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive?

Confession. Even as a Christian, sometimes I think of my faith as historic (which it is). Of the scripture as an ancient document (which it is).

But that is not really what either is.

Jesus is alive. His words are living and active and powerful.

Jesus’ claim is on the present. And on you. And on your future. All of history is moving toward him, and you are invited on that journey.

You know what I believe? He’s looking for you today.

Because when Jesus came back, he came back for you.

So, after 40 days of thinking through it, how are you going to respond to that?

Belong – Because you can belong before you believe.
If you were talking to Jesus today. What would you ask him? Why not ask him? Because he’s alive. And when he came back, he came back for you.

Believe – Because those who belong often start to believe.
Your faith, new as it is, is alive and active. Jesus is present with you now. Talk to him.

Become – Because those who believe can become someone new.
You salvation isn’t something that just happened to you, it’s something that is happening to you right now. Jesus is alive, and he’s only just begun to work in your life. Where does your conversation with him need to go today? Right now. Because he’s listening.

Dear God, You are alive. Our Saviour is risen, and he is here. Today we confess that. This isn’t just historical, it’s personal. And as we continue this journey today and tomorrow, may we be deeply impressed with the love behind this fact: that when Jesus came back, he came back for me. Thank you! Through the risen Christ I pray, Amen.
