Day 4 – Aren’t You Just a Little Bit Curious?

Your Next 40 Days - Day 4

Read

Matthew 28:5-8

Reflect

Know anyone who’s really curious?

If you’re a parent of young kids, chances are your mind will go toward them. Kids are inherently curious. They ask why, even when they shouldn’t. They poke, prod and ask questions.

Know any adults who are curious?

Maybe a few, but the truth is, the older we get, the less curious we become.

I think that’s a shame.

Curiosity must have played a role in the resurrection story. What do you mean he’s not dead?
What do you mean he ‘appeared’ to people? Seriously?

But rather than cynically dismissing the accounts of Jesus’ resurrection, Mary and the others ran to find out what was going on.

They must have been curious.

What does this mean?
How will my life be different?
Does this mean it isn’t over?
Is something new beginning?
Is this resurrection going to change how I live?

Actually, those are pretty good questions for today too, if you’re curious enough to ask them.

So, are you?

Respond

Belong – Because you can belong before you believe.
What are you most curious about when it comes to Jesus and Christianity? Write those questions down and – if you’re ready – ask God some of those questions personally (through prayer).

Believe – Because those who belong often start to believe.
How has curiosity on your spiritual journey served you well? Has curiosity helped you trust God more? How?

Become – Because everyone who believes can become someone new.
Many seasoned Christians lose their curiosity. Curiosity can lead to great things and help keep cynicism at bay.  Why not pray through the five questions outlined above and see what happens today, this week, this month?

Dear God, don’t let me lose my curiosity. Help me to ask questions that lead me closer to you, and to never lose the joy that comes from knowing that you constantly surprise and amaze people. Through Christ I pray, Amen.
