Assassin's Creed is one of the most popular video games of recent years. One of the Characters is Xerxes – King of Persia.
What may surprise you is that Xerxes isn't actually a product of fiction. He was a real king, and a main player in the biblical book of Esther. Through Assassin's Creed and movies like 300 (which also features the ancient king of Persia), Xerxes' legacy lives on in popular culture.
What's really interesting though, is that the storyline of Esther is no less dramatic than either Assassin's Creed or 300.
This week we're reading the book of Esther together. You can be done in about 25 minutes, and it's got as many twists and turns as a feature film. If you've never read the bible before and aren't sure about God, that's ok. God actually isn't mentioned in the book even once (it's actually the only time in all of scripture that a book doesn't mention God).
Even though though God appears to be entirely absent in the book, we asked this past weekend if may he is present after all.
Let us know what you think about the book. Have a read, then let us know in the comments! We'd love to hear your thoughts!
