This Weekend @ Connexus | November 30th, 2008

Hey Everyone – so excited about this weekend.

Barrie – your first week response to Revolutionary Love has been fantastic.  You set a record of sorts last weekend when you crammed and ambulance with food and toys (the paramedics have never seen it that full).  And this week – well, check this out.  Connexus is ranked number one nationally among teams currently raising money for mosquito nets to save children from dying of malaria. You can donate here and invite your friends to do the same. Bring your paper-form pledges in too.  They are not included in the online total.  Awesome stuff!

And – this weekend, Barrie – get ready to hear about an opportunity to show revolutionary love in Guatemala.  It will be a fantastic weekend.

Orillia – cram the ambulance full of non-perishable foods when you come out on Sunday.  And get ready to jump into our Malaria Bites campaign with the Red Cross.  Your chance to show revolutionary love begins this weekend!  Kits will be handed out following each service Sunday.

What a great weekend to bring a friend with you!

Revolutionary Love Part Two:  Revolutionary Motivation – Motivation affects so much. Motivated people accomplish more and do so with joy. Many people who embrace Christianity struggle with staying motivated to love the poor and embrace people who are different than they are. Jesus was incredibly motivated when it came to embracing people. Why?

Revolutionary Love | Part One: Revolutionary Fusion – Is Christianity a Belief system? Is it a series of deeds? Why do people claim that Christianity is revolutionary while others say it lacks power? Many people fail to experience the revolutionary effect of a relationship with Jesus because belief and action don't meet. When they do, something revolutionary happens.

Great challenge last week for Barrie to raise funds for the mosquito nets for the Red Cross. My seven year old daughter was especially taken with this issue, I guess because it affected children who were around her age and she saw the amount for a net as something that anyone could pay. So I gave her the form and let her ask some of our friends and family. I wrote something on the Red Cross email and forwarded it to a few people that I do business with. I thought I would set her goal for 20 nets, as that would be something for her to achieve, especially in a week. By Sunday, people had responded with 47 nets. This is something that will stick with her and hopefully this will start her on a journey throughout her life to care for those less fortunate … a great Christmas message.

In our house we have talked about doing something to be more deliberate in teaching generosity to our children so that they will be more considerate to the needs of others when they are older. We have decided to try something different for 2009. We have six people in our household, and we are each going to draw two months for the year. Each person will be responsible for selecting a charity or need for that month and explaining to the rest of the family why that issue is important to them. We will have a container on the table where people can put money into for the month and then at the end of the month I will top it up and send the money to the various places.

I am hoping that by asking each person to select their charity and by having them explain it's importance to others that this will help to establish that giving spirit in them !!
