This Weekend @ Connexus | June 20th, 2010

Hey Friends!  This Sunday at both campuses it's Flip Flop Sunday. If you're up to it, wear your flip flops to Connexus this weekend and get ready for some summer fun. (Hint: don't be late…lots of fun in the first five minutes of the service). Why are we doing this?

  1. It's fun.
  2. It's mandated in the Old Testament book of Hezekiah.  (Okay…we made that up).
  3. A surprising number of people still think you have to dress up to go to church. If you've got the wardrobe to go to the movies, you've got the wardrobe to go to church.
  4. We want to create a church that people who don't go to church love to attend!  We hope this gives you one more reason to feel right at home.
  5. We like beach music.

Sound good!?  Bring on the flip flops!  Plus it's a great weekend to invite some friends.
In the News…
Before we get to the details on Sunday…did you see that Connexus was in the news this week? The Orillia Packet and Times ran an article about us, and we blogged about it here.  (PS.  The Barrie Examiner is expected to be doing an article shortly about the Barrie Campus).
Book Launch – Thank You
I just wanted to say a personal thank you to all of you who came out Monday night at Horseshoe Valley for the launch of Parenting Beyond Your Capacity, a book I had the opportunity to co-author with Reggie Joiner. Also thanks for the patience that all of you who couldn't get in displayed. Sorry the room couldn't hold more! It was a very memorable night for Toni and I. It was great to have people there from every stage of our ministry. We've been in this area for fifteen years, and it was awesome to have so many of you from every phase of the journey – including many brand new to Connexus that I met for the first time. Grateful for all that God is doing in our midst. I know many of you have been asking, so…you can pick up the book online, in selected stores and, starting Sunday, in the Connexus lobby. My prayer is that it makes a difference in our home lives and that it's a book you find easy to share with your friends who don't go to church as well!
And now, here's what's up this Sunday!

Not Actually Jesus | Part Four: God Helps Those Who Help Themselves
You've heard it many times: God helps those who help themselves. That might be true in another religion, but not in Christianity. In fact, the Bible teaches a radical alternative that might surprise you. Join us as we explore the radical and challenging teachings of Jesus.

Not Actually Jesus | Part Three: Sin Has Sizes
Most of us know people who think their sins are no big deal and don't need to be taken seriously. At the same time we also know people who think their sins are so big that they can never recover from them. What if both groups are wrong? Are some sins too big to recover from? Are other sins no big deal? Do sins have sizes? Find out this week.
