This Weekend @ Connexus | January 2nd, 2011

Hope you are having a great Christmas/New Year's break. My hope is that somewhere in the craziness of family, friends and travel, you were able to think, pray and reflect on life, Christ and the gift He's given. We can help with that at our services this weekend, but first a few updates.

  • Thanks to all of you who invited friends out to our Christmas Eve services. We had record attendance and personally, I think this year was my favourite Christmas Eve service yet. Thanks to the teams who set up and tore down during what's ‘family time' for so many. Your sacrifice and spirit are noticed and appreciated!
  • Thanks to all of you who have made a gift to our Gifts that Keep on Giving Christmas appeal. You can still give to Connexus in 2010 and every single gift is needed and appreciated…details are here.
  • It's a new year…and that means many people will be ready to turn over a new leaf. Invite them along with you. We are wrapping up Scrooges Welcome in Orillia with a message all about the difference between performing your way into God's good books and responding to what Christ has done. It's a powerful difference once you realize what's at stake.
And in Barrie we launch Hijacked – a series all about why our desire to see change in our lives sometimes gets hijacked and what we can do about it.
We're back to our normal service times (8:30 and 10:00) and regular venues (the Galaxy Cinemas in each city) at both campuses. Can't wait to kick off 2011 together this weekend!

Hijacked | Part One:  You are Here (Carey Nieuwhof)
Ever wondered how you got where you are? Sometimes we resign ourselves to thinking there’s nothing we can do to change our circumstances…that our current situation is fate or even divine will. But what if that’s not true? What if God gives us a choice? What if God is in control, but God is not controlling?

Scrooges Welcome | Part Two: Why The Bad Get In (Carey Nieuwhof)
Everyone knows faith has something to do with changing your life. But how you understand how it happens can make a world of difference in changing your life. If God lets ‘bad’ people in by grace, do people just get to stay bad? Where’s the incentive to do good things? We’ll tackle an age-old tension this weekend.
