Orillia Blog Contest

So yesterday (November 21st) we launched the Like Me series at our Orillia Campus all about social media and its impact on faith and relationships.

We also told you about our contest to win a trip to Great Wolf Lodge for you and your family (a $500 gift voucher). The draw is open to anyone who is ‘new’ at Connexus during the series.  There is one prize per campus.  Your ballot for the draw is a comment on our blog during the series. Just identify yourself as someone who’s new.

We consider ourselves a learning organization, so while we’re at it, we’d love to pick your brain about how we can continue to get better at accomplishing our mission and realizing our vision.  Our mission as a community is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, and our vision is trying to create a church that unchurched people love to attend.  Your response to two question would be so appreciated:

  1. What (if anything) made you decide you wanted to come back to Connexus after your first visit (or alternatively, decide you did not want to come back)?
  2. Is there anything we could have done that would have made your first visit a better experience?

Any insight you provide would be so helpful.  But if you simply post your name with a comment that says “We just really want to win the trip”, we’ll still enter you.  If you end up posting on another post over the series, don’t worry we’ll enter you as well.  (We really like families around here).  And make sure you identify your campus.  There is a separate blog post for Barrie campus attenders.

Anyway, in the meantime, we just thought we might learn something along the way.

So post away.  We’re listening Orillia!

    Hi Carey,
I’ve been away for a while and just found out about the lunch voucher and win the trip incentive. I’m curious….how did this idea evolve and how are these offers funded? Why choose these incentives as motivators?

Joy…thanks for the questions. We chose the vouchers (we’ve used them before) as a way of encouraging longer conversations about life and faith. Because we’ve chosen to grow through personal relationships and invitations (rather than advertising), we decided to help fund the relationships from time to time. Some families would find it a financial stretch to take another family or couple out to lunch, so we thought it was a way to come along and help.

The trip? Well, that’s just fun. Sometimes it’s nice to do something many churches don’t do, and it’s a way of encouraging and promoting an increased quantity of quality time for families (we talked about this in our Modern Families series in October). It’s all funded out of general givings.

This Sunday (Nov 28) was my first visit to Connexus and I must say it was an over all comfortable experience. The people are so welcoming which made it very inviting. I don’t currently attend church often but Connexus makes it easy and comfortable for me. From the tasty coffee, AWESOME band and engaging topics, this was not only a fun experience but also educational. The only thing that may have made the experience any better was to physically meet Carey, but I know we can’t be in two places at once! Thank you for a great time and I can’t wait to go again!!

Thanks so much for your encouraging feedback about your first visit to Connexus. So many people contribute to the Sunday morning experience and I’m thrilled that you enjoyed it.
We are working on cloning Carey 🙂

    Hi,
I attended with my friend Sandy McKeown last Sunday the 5th for the first time and would like to enter the Great Wolf Lodge Contest.
Thank you for the lunch too. I really enjoyed the sermon/talk and felt it was right on and loved how the link was made to the ancient bible from the contemporary social media. Well done.
My theology is more liberal than yours as I belong to the United Church of Canada, but I was impressed nevertheless. You are obviously doing a good job.
One comment. I was really chilled and found the theater quite damp at the time but it was a cold day. Maybe a little extra heater?
Will come back to visit when I can. Thank you.
Will be sharing two CD’s with my Pastors Karen Hilfman Millson and Monica, at St. Paul’s. I think they will be impressed.
    God Bless,
    Elaine McGrath
