How are we going to do that? (Part One)

Today is the first of a series of posts to answer some of the "how" questions around the launch of Connexus Community Church.  Although we aren’t going to be able to get into each and every detail here . . . we do want to give you a sense of some of the issues we are thinking through for the future of our church.  Today we have a video entry on how we could end up converting theatre space into UpStreet if we aren’t able to purchase back the Line 7 property from the Presbyteryian Church in Canada.  As always – you’re feedback is more than welcomed!

Great video, Rich… looking forward to learning more about the "portable church" stuff we might be doing. 🙂

I am really excited by what God is doing in and around this community. As I don't live in the area, I hope that the online features will still be available.

Many blessings for this new community. It is going to be awesome!

    Peace in Christ.

Wow! I can well imagine how much thought and planning needs to go into the practical stuff if we end up in the Galaxy Theatres. I am confident it will all work out though. However, my question is; How are we going to make sure the space is a holy sacred place every Sunday? In otherwords how are we going to purify the space spiritually for worship?

For example I spent many years as the Executive Director of a children's Christian summer camp. When we opened and began getting the facility ready for the summer we would set aside a special time to cleanse the camp. We would go to each building and play area (ie: beach, soccer field) where we would ask God to come and cleanse each structure of anything evil and not of Him. We then asked God to fill the space with His grace and peace for all. There is a spiritual battle in this world and I feel we need to consider this in the Connexus planning process?

We just need to see what movies will be shown during October (Halloween) to see that things of God will not be filling that space during the rest of the week.

    Louise!

I love your heart sister! Thanks for your kind works and encouragement.

One of the things I think that is just fascinating about the Biblical record is how it talks about "where" God meets people. There is an interesting pattern that seems to emerge when we consider the location that people find themselves when they make significant decisions to follow God. The Biblical account seems to point to the fact that God prefers to meet people in the "marketplace" rather than in the "sacred space". Moses was called while out tending the sheep. Nehemiah was serving his master in a foreign court. Joseph was stuck in prison for a crime he was falsely accused of. Daniel was attending university. Jesus' disciples were all working their day jobs when he showed up. Paul was simply walking down the road. The list seems to go on and on . . .

I just love that! God doesn't restrict his "movement" to a special place or certain geography! He's an out of the box thinker. It would appear that if God continues to work in the way he did in the Bible – we should expect him to get people's attention in the marketplace. I love that we serve a God that can use any space for his work.

Now, that being said, I am totally with you that we need to pray. We should be praying that God gives us the wisdom to serve people regardless of their spiritual background and help them get a fuller picture of what it means to follow Jesus through our words and actions. I also think that we should pray, regardless of whatever space we end up in, that we'd be able to leverage that space to see more people connected with God. It's kinda cool that we may get the opportunity to "redeem" a space that is sometimes used for bad for God's glory. What a very "Jesus thing to do"!

How could you help us with concentrated prayer over this transition time? We are in very much in need of some focused prayer in these days. Drop me a line – let's chat about it.

Hey Rich! Great video! I'm starting to get excited about what God is doing! I know what ever happens His hand is upon us and He will do amazing things through this church no matter where we end up.
