How an Invitation to Christmas Eve turned into so much more.

Around Connexus, you may have noticed that we LOVE our volunteers. A lot.

We couldn’t do what we do without them.

Esther is a volunteer who attends Connexus Church in Barrie, and is currently serving every week as an UpStreet Small Group Leader with the grade 4/5 girls. Her journey started on Christmas Eve nearly 1 year ago. We’re so thankful for volunteers like Esther, and the work that God has done in her life since last Christmas, to now leading a small group of girls in UpStreet!

Here is her Christmas Eve story 🙂

When I originally attended my first service I never, ever would have imagined that it would change my life in such a dramatic way. My husband had started attending Connexus about 6 months earlier and was constantly telling me that I should come check it out. However, I constantly put off attending because faith was never a huge priority in my life.

Eventually he got me to say yes, with the promise that the Christmas Eve service would have tubular bells as a part of the band, and I was eager to witness my favourite instrument in action.20161010_113420 Imagine my surprise when instead of sitting through a boring and preachy service after the tubular bells had finished, I ended up leaving the church feeling awed and emotional and at peace.

Like the service had put a crack in my carefully maintained facade of indifference regarding faith and started letting hope trickle in.

Needless to say; I have not missed a single service since and my faith has grown exponentially to the point where my husband and I have started to volunteer our time every Sunday morning with the Family Ministry and I am a Small Group Leader in UpStreet.

Now, almost a full year after my very first and life-changing Christmas Eve service, I am pursuing a relationship with God and have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour.

You never know who might say yes to your invitation this Christmas. So why not start the conversation, and extend the invitation. Who knows, maybe this Christmas, your invitation could lead to a story like Esther’s.

    Great story!
We are so grateful for Connexus. It truly is a church that unchurched people love to attend. Like a lot of people, we really like the Christmas service and use it as an opportunity to invite people we know who don’t go to church. The Christmas service has an appeal all of its own and people we’ve invited over the years have loved it. We can’t wait for this year’s service – we have 5 extra people invited!

    God Bless,

    Larry G. Pardy
