Day 5 – October 14, 2012 – 40 Day Spiritual Journey

DO NOT GIVE UP – PRAY!
READ Daniel 6

REFLECT

Many of us are familiar with the boldness of Daniel in this Bible story. He absolutely, stubbornly refused to stop praying to his GOD. Even with King Darius’s threat to throw him into a lion’s den, his faith was so strong he continued to pray! Wow! I cannot say I have EVER been that brave. However, I have been in situations when it would have been easier to give in, give up hope and let myself wallow in self-pity. Somehow, some way, I was blessed with stubbornness (kind of like Daniel) to choose to pray and to NOT let “The Lion” in the situation eat me up! I am thrilled to share that I am a cancer survivor. It was a silly “canker sore” that ended up being cancer. This was a turning point in my life 15 years ago. It was also a turning point for my family. When we had doctor appointments and had difficulty understanding them, God comforted us and gave us calmness, because we prayed for it. When I had 7 weeks of radiation treatments and was traveling back and forth to Toronto 5 days a week, God gave me strength and a positive attitude to make it through, because I (and many other people) prayed for it. God’s love, support, and grace lifted me up and carried me through and I am forever indebted to my God for being there for me just like he was there for Daniel. He did not let harm touch Daniel and he wrapped his arms around my family and me and protected us too!

BOTTOM LINE

Daniel had an awesome and bold faith. He set the standard pretty high for us. He believed and through his bold faith he led King Darius to say:

Daniel 6: 26-27

26 For he is the living God and he endures forever his kingdom will not be destroyed, his dominion will never end. 27 He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.

LIVE

It certainly is easier said then done but the next time you are faced with a challenge like Daniel’s “Lion” give God a chance to lift you up through the nightmare. Stop, take a breath, pray and allow God to be there for you. He is waiting….Just ask!

PRAY

Help me to be bold enough to allow your comfort and love into my heart. Help me to turn to you and pray unceasingly!
