Connexus is Turning Three

I can hardly believe it, but the next two weekends mark an important milestone in our journey together:

Connexus turns three in December.

Can you believe it?  It was three years ago we first pulled up the trucks to the Galaxy Theaters in Barrie and Orillia, rolled out the cases and opened the doors to try to create a church that unchurched people love to attend.

We’re celebrating this Sunday, December 5th in Barrie and Sunday, December 12th in Orillia (exactly three years to the day we launched each campus).  We’ll share some cake, celebrate what God is doing and I’ll share some vision and an opportunity as we head into a brand new year together.

But as we get ready to ccelebrate, I’d love to ask you this:

How is your life different than it was three years ago as a result of what God is doing through Connexus?

Love to hear your thoughts.  I’ve posted three things I’m grateful for here and will share some very specific things Sunday during the message.

Plus, we’ll have cake.  Who doesn’t love cake?

I have attended Connexus from the very beginning. I remember the soft launch and meeting the kid’s ministry folks 3 years ago. I signed up to volunteer but had no idea how God would work in my life. I started on check in, and eventually that led to a small group leader role. I love to give and share my faith with the kids but what I receive in return is amazing. My faith has grown in leaps and bounds. Although I was a Christian when Connexus launched, over the past 3 years I have gained a personal relationship with Jesus and my involvement led to my decision to be Baptized to celebrate that new deeper relationship this past summer <3

Serving in Xtreme has pushed my relationship with God in ways I never expected. Those students ask deep questions, that make me re-evaluate and take another look at what (and why) I believe.

As someone who worked nights, I’m so thankful for the opportunity to serve, and help create the kind of environment that unchurched people can feel comfortable attending. Thanks for fighting for a different kind of church.

Three years already!? Wow, it’s gone by so fast.
I started out on the E-team and Extreme for the first year and a half then, moved on to Camera Operator with the Production Team.
This hands on approach to serving has intensely deepened my relationship with God. I rely on Him to lead me; He relies on me to do His work. We work well together.
I absolutely love ‘Participating’ in Connexus and working alongside the other Volunteers. Each story we hear of someone new accepting Jesus as his/her saviour reminds me that, all of us working together made that happen. Each of us committing our time and energy to serve God by preparing an environment in our portable church, is a very small deposit into someone’s very big eternity.
Before we started doing church this way, I really didn’t know what it meant or felt like to ‘serve God’. I’m grateful for the opportunity each week.
Can’t imagine doing church any other way.

I’m still fairly new to the whole Connexus experience, as I just started coming this past summer. I must say that as a person who has “warmed the pew” in a traditional church for almost 25 years, I find it so refreshing to be in a place now where I don’t feel like I have to be “perfect”! My wife and I joined a small group and already we both feel like our relationship with Jesus has increased exponentially! Instead of discussing “pie in the sky” issues, we have encountered real people with real problems that we can relate to and pray with each other about and encourage each other in our Christian walk. May God continue to bless this wonderful and relevent ministry! Happy anniversary everyone!

Three years ago I followed my family to Connexus, unsure what to expect from a church meeting in a movie theatre. I decided to sign up in Barrie for E-team as I thought it might not be the most popular volunteer role, “You get to wake up before 6am on a Sunday morning and then lug equipment around all morning setting up enviroments.” Who would have expected that this act of serving in such a small way would bring so many blessings to me. Connexus gave me the opportunity to play a small part in the incredible story that God is writing in people’s lives. I can’t preach, I can’t sing (at least that’s what my kids tell me in the car), but I can help set up environments on a Sunday morning and then marvel as God fills these environments to capacity with the smiling faces of children anxious to learn more about Jesus and different virtues.

I have seen God move in my life and that of my entire family over the last three years. I have found community on Sunday morning with all the other wonderful volunteers and these opportunities have allowed me to connect on a much deeper level then I ever did before when I just slipped in the back of church on a Sunday morning. So thankful for the opportunity and for all the great staff and volunteers.

Happy Birthday Connexus !! Looking forward to see what God still has in store.

It was so exciting when we first started up. God was so very present – I’ll never forget that feeling, as we all worked so hard to start up this new church called Connexus with the goal of reaching people who didn’t go to church. It has been a great blessing for our whole family for the past three years to be part of Connexus. A bit tiring at times… we all volunteer – but we wouldn’t change it for anything. For everything we’ve given, we’ve been twice blessed! I’ve met some amazing people at Connexus – both old and new folks – who have inspired me greatly and changed my life. It has been exciting; it has been inspiring; it has been challenging; it has been fun – but best of all – I got to know Jesus better and grow in my faith. Thanks Connexus!

I would like to say THANK YOU! I have been serving with Connexus for three years.
Connexus has opened up whole new avenue of my walk with God. Serving is amazing, we all have gifts and from the get go I was placed in a position to recognize my strengths, relationships and further develop them. It is a joy and a pleasure to know that I am a part of this family, creating a safe and loving environment, to support and lead unchurched people into a growing relationship with Jesus. Staying focused on our true purpose is what keeps me wanting more. To everyone at Connexus from small group to the staff and other volunteers. Thank you, for getting out of the boat Connexus! Happy Birthday!~

I love hearing stories from the team that’s been with us serving for years. So encouraging that when you give, God gives back in so many ways, isn’t it? Thank you so much! Love doing this with you all!
